The Gail Winkfield Scholarship Foundation

The Gail Winkfield Scholarship Foundation was created in remembrance of Gail S. Winkfield, who at age 18, died in a car accident in New Jersey on July 19, 2009. Gail had just graduated from Franklin Learning Center High School on June 17, 2009 and was going to continue on to college in the fall of 2009. This scholarship will reward the chosen applicant, by the scholarship panel, with a onetime reward of $500.

Who qualifies?: Currently only students (seniors only) from Franklin Learning Center (FLC) are being accepted.

What is the Scholarship amount?: One chosen applicant will be rewarded $500 towards their college books/tuition.

When should applicants apply?: Applications will be accepted from January 1ST – March 1ST. (PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIP BEFORE OR AFTER THOSE DATES. ANY APPLICATION RECEIVED BEFORE JANUARY 1ST OR AFTER MARCH 1ST WILL BE DISCARDED.)

When will the recipient be selected?: The chosen applicant will be selected and notified no later than May 1st. The recipient of the scholarship will be notified by mail and by telephone from a person from the scholarship panel.

How will I receive my reward?: The recipient of the Gail Winkfield Scholarship reward, will be presented with a check in the amount of $500 from persons from the scholarship panel.

How is the recipient of The Gail Winkfield Scholarship Foundation selected?: Applications are reviewed by the scholarship panel and desired recipients possess similar qualities as Gail Winkfield. Applicants must be a senior at Franklin Learning Center. The scholarship panel looks for academic standing, work ethics, and extracurricular activities in and outside of school. Only applicants with completed applications will be reviewed for the scholarship. Any application that is not complete will not be reviewed and will be discarded.

What are the things that will make my application complete?: Completed applications will include: The Gail Winkfield Scholarship Foundation Application, resume’, typed essay, official copy of current grades/GPA (up and until December your senior year), and two letters of recommendation (one teacher at FLC and one Employer).
